Subject: Re: White 5100 Planter No Till Setup

I run a 5100, and have good luck getting the seed into no-till ground. But I've had Significant trouble closing up sod (grass) ground with the OEM 5100 closing wheel; it just didn't move any dirt (which was hard to find anyway in sod) to cover up the seed. I really think I would have benefited from harrowing back then (even with the added wheel compaction problem). I run Schlagel Posi-close now, and like them very well, but I have to admit I still would like a little better closing in tough sod conditions. I've not been able to get my schaffert deals set up correctly yet (mine are old, and in poor condition, my own fault, not schafferts) yet to see a benefit from them.

.02 from a north country no-tiller. Your mileage may vary.
