Subject: Re: Question on building siding steel thickness vs strength

Dave pretty much hit it on the head. Strength needs to be defined. Way too many factors, quality of steel, thickness, type of steel, forming process and shape, finish. Is it a question of fasteners pulling, resistance to bending and/or denting, stiffness vs. flexing? The framing and design of the building will also be a factor. Ever seen a piece of sheet metal on a building that has had a fastener come loose, and the metal flex until it breaks. Look at buildings that have been up a while and see how they are holding up. Companies are always trying to cut costs and improve buildings, their warranty, and willingness to fix problems should also be a consideration. Have had FBI, come back and replace screws that they felt the paint was not holding up, and change out some steel panels that they were not happy with. Would guess that any good builder would do like wise. They try to monitor the quality of the material they purchase.
