Southeast MN | The drag chains can be a pain with the stubble, flipping up and catching on the wheel. Some use a heavy rod to make a loop or guard to keep them off the wheel (maybe find some pictures in the search here). Others weld the first few links solid so the chain is less likely to flop around.
I run with one spike and one rubber wheel, in heavy corn stubble I remove the chain from the bracket behind the spike wheel so it just flops around behind the rubber wheel.
Really like how one 15" spike wheel shatters the soil over the slot in notill when soil is a bit damp "here". You might try a couple rows and see how your worn wheels work. | |
