Open up the top of the motor and look for camshaft wear/flaking off. Check the turbo for end play. We have 2 with 700k on them and one had a turbo out and one had the cam "go out" on it. They are excellent engines and ours get 6.5-7+ mpg loaded one way and empty the other. Good Luck.
