We bought a brand new 8940 in 1999 and had the dealer put the dual shaft 540/1000 with all new parts for ~$2500 at that time. There is no difference. We still got to keep the 1 3/4" 1000 shaft and part that came out of the tractor. Pretty simple change if I remember correctly. You could even order the 8930 with both shafts from the factory.
