Blistex is my choice and the applicator doesn't have issues with the stick getting pushed into the cap.  Blistex has a cap that covers and snaps over the part that adjusts the stick so that it doesn't rub against the fabric of the pocket and cause it to get advanced into the cap.  I can use every bit of it instead of throwing away that last half because of it "stripping gears" or breaking off.
