Subject: Re: couple bath tiling questions

Springville Alabama
If it makes you feel any better we a paying a professional to do our tile in our bathroom. The wife picked out 3"x6" bricks (Travertine) for the shower walls. The guy laying the tile is VERY good. He spent a whole day (8 hours) building the shower pan and installing the waterproofing on the walls in the show. He started last Sat morning laying the tiles. He worked all day Saturday and all day Sunday (8 hours each day). He got 3 walls layed up 42" tall x 60" wide and 1 wall 9' tall x 60" wide. He only layed 780 in 2 days and he's a professional.

He did use a solid spacer under the bottom row of tiles. He also used a level to check every row of tiles after he had them layed and then made adjustments. He used various size tile spacers to keep them level. We are using 1/8" spacers for the grout line, but he has the little wedges that go from nothing to 1/8" that he uses some times to get a tile level when the 1/8" spacer is not enough or too much. The travertine tiles aren't a perfect 3"x6" and they have tumbled edges.

I'll take a couple pictures and post them in a little while.

Chris
