West Chazy, New York |
A few years ago I spread about 60 to 70 yards of compost per acre for a customer who wanted to plant basil on ninety acres of former pineapple land that was around 4.5. I thought it was questionable, but they paid me to do it. The results were exceptionally good. I mixed the compost with about six tons of lime and spread it all at once, and then disced it in. They planted within three months. Compost will not give a long lasting benefit, but it works very well in the short term. We had a ready supply of compost from a company that gets paid to process greenwaste. If you have to haul it very far, it would be expensive. The seed growers here sometimes use calcium thiosulfate for a fast remediation. They put it through the irrigation water.
