Subject: Re: Deep banding phosphorus in Great Plains winter wheat

Southeast Colorado
An old timer use to tell me that he liked deep banding the P because he said that the plant roots would wait until next spring before growing deep enough to hit the P. Then when everyone else's wheat would begin to burn up from lack of moisture, his wheat would finally hit the P and get a sudden resurgence of growth. That would make his plants last longer and wait for rain. I'm not sure if there was anything to this but this old man owned thousands of acres and a bank at the time of his death.
