Subject: RE: Double Crop Corn

Eastern Shore of MD
We are on the central Eastern Shore of Md & I know of several guys that double crop behind barley and usually get it planted around June 15th or so but everyone I know that is doing it is irrigated. This year yields (from what I have heard) were in the 120 -140 range but I would say that is a little lower than normal, most plant about 102 day hybrid. Personally, we have planted after peas in Mid june but drydown was an issue and we have had to shell corn about Thanksgiving at 24% since it was not drying down but that was 107 day corn, if we were doing it now we would also plant about 102 day hybrid that would drydown quicker. One issue you may have is finding an elevator that will take wet corn in November.
