| Hi Johnny,
we have been putting organic no-till soybean plots ranging in size from a few hundred square feet to ~ 1 acre in size for several years. We've used a JD 750 no-till drill to plant 225-250,000 seeds/ac into either standing cereal rye or rolled cereal rye. Our goal is to plant shortly after the rye begins shedding pollen but we have waited as much as 2 weeks longer.
We are not using any herbicides (because we are certified organic) but conventional farmers who are rolling cover crops typically spray a burn down program after rolling or while rolling.
The rye has provided excellent suppression of broadleaf weeds and moderate to good suppression of grasses in our no-till soybeans. No-till plot yields have ranged from low 40s to low 60 bu/a over the past 3 years.
