Malt barely is alot better then what it use to be. Some of the newer varieties are better on the protein levels then what they use to be. I wouldn't stream any nitrogen on top of it though. We always broadcast all fertlizer on first then rip it in. So far thats worked well for us, we are also flood irrigated and yield 125-150 bsl, soil is sandy loam.
