waaaay east central Colorado | As an irrigator, I'd be hesitant about doing something like that. As tempting as it sounds, bad feelings could easily develop. The earlier posters have covered some good points, but I'd like to bring up the strictly agronomic side of things. A lot of the success that comes from irrigation is timing. Incorporating herbicides, fertigating, timing water application with any sort of field work/side dressing, all could lead to trouble if you two aren't on the same page. Not saying that something couldn't be worked out between two willing parties, but just understand what you want and expect out of the deal before you sit down and discuss it in detail. IMHO, it'd probably be simpler for one party or the other to rent the others property and operate it as one field, with one operator.
