Subject: CRP Revisited (Ed take a look)

Gentleman, picked up the crp acreage we had talked about a few days ago. Taking a third even more in depth look at the ground has revealed a fairly thick thatch mat in some places, along with some small brush that has been mowed off (1" or less). Now the ground has been mowed off and chopped for silage. However the mat still remains in places. The landlord also has recommended removing some brush along the edges to increase the tillable acres and combine two of the fields. Am strongly considering a pass with a 330 to mix the thatch and topsoil in. I originally planned on using a fall and spring burndown pass and no tilling the corn in, but now to a slightly increased rental bid don't want to take the chance of having a failure.

So the question is do you just use what would likely be two passes with a 330? Or would a disc or disc ripper pass than a 330 pass be a better idea. Generally we Strip-Till our Corn (wether COC or COB) but I don't know that our strip till bar will go through this.
Would likely use NH3 for half of the N, put some on with the planter and finish it off with side dress as far as the N goes.
