Subject: volunteer spring wheat in cover crop

Edgeley, ND
There was a discussion a couple weeks ago about bolunteer spring wheat in the cover crop when the poster asked how to kill it. The general consensus was to use something like select or I use section which is a generic version. At 4 ounces it costs $2.47 an acre. I have been wondering to myself that the wheat will also provide residue to become organic matter but maybe it will be a little too thick to choke out the tillage radishes and yellow peas. Thinking maybe I will spray after labor day and then any that germinates after that will be left to serve as cover also. Any other opinions to share about this?
PS My planting was radishes in 15 " rows with the peas in the alternating 15" rows to make 7.5" spacing. Looks good but the downside was I didn't have a way to apply any fert at planting which I am sure the radishes could have used.
