looks like a hackberry bush to me, eventually grows into a nice tall tree when pruned, if its combating for sunlight and many other trees around it in competition it will bush out then. The berries are edible, yes you can make jam, they are a favorite of birds.
Had one of these trees that was a beast that got taken by lightning, really sucked to see this tree go, its in the ash family.
What kind of tree is this?
