Many times corn is being chopped because it is drought stricken and will make little to no grain. This will have high nitrates in it, especially the lower stalks. Should not be a problem in your case by the time you can get the corn chopped even if you had been in a drought. The nitrate moves rapidly throughout the plant after a good rain as long as the plant is still growing. Silage fermentation uses up some nitrate so the levels in the silage are much lower than what was in the stalks in the field.
I think you want to graze them as soon as possible after the chopper is finished to avoid as much mold growth as possible. | |
