Little River, TX
Consider using a ground wire between the two hot wires.
Dry dirt is awfully good insulation.

I kind of like three wires with the top and bottom wire ground wires, plus two maybe three grounding stakes.

Back in the good old days (the drought of the 50's) we had a neighbor's one jersey cow on a 20 acre pasture. Had to feed the cow to keep her from starving.

Grass & weeds; I guess roundup is good, but promital or Velpar is better. Works good for an average or wet year. A dry year like now, with no roots growing under the wire the ground cracks and the post can pull out.

Hopefully you have more electric fence compatible dirt & climate than here.

Those gallagar fences really do work well. but they use multiple hot ground wires. Neighbors rabbit chasing dog does not chase a rabbit through that fence.
