Subject: Re: Irene

Eastern Shore of MD
We farm about 50 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean & about 10 miles east of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, NWS calling for 40+ miles per hr sustained winds & gusts to 60 for Sat Night w/ 6 -10" rain - have not seen forecast for Sunday yet but hope winds don't get much worse - storm supposed to be over mid day Sunday or so. It is supposed to be worse farther east of us ( Rob 20/ 20 territory) w/ gusts to 80 or more on the ocean coast. Many guys have started to shell corn w/ Local grain companies either increasing their corn basis or are not taking any moisture discount until 19% - so they are trying to help us out. We are shelling and trying to find the driest corn - still running from low 20% to upper 20% for us but can't do it all in a few days will likely still have 80% of our corn acres to go by Sat. Not a good situation with drought stressed corn w/ no stalk under it or high pop. irrigated corn (hopefully it will stand better) but we will knowby Monday morning. May yet need that corn reel we bought 3 yrs ago that is still in the box but still hoping the forecasts are wrong & Irene will turn out to sea.
