In the mid 90's a lot of research was done that should narrow rows (less than 30's) paid in northern ia and minnesota due to capturing limited sunlight and in ok and texas to reduce evaporation. I would think you would pick up yield due to shading and you should have bigger staks. Also, around here you can't give away a 36" row head or planter. All the new hybrids are now designed for 30" or less. You may consider switching to twin row instead of 30" but that's more dollars
