Lowell, my Dad used a lister back in the 1940's, what you call a "go devil" we called a curler, same thing, we would "threw it in" the first time, then "threw it out" the 2nd time a couple of weeks later.  Then cultivate once or twice if we had time.  Then later walk the field with hoes to get the missed weeds.  Lots of fun, don't know how the old timers got every thing done.
