Subject: RE: Breaking pasture ground

PROSPECT, TENNESSEE
I took in some that had been in pasture for 40 years this year. I pulled a DMI plow with no till shanks and points over most. I had to see if the money I spent on fuel was worth it so I left a check. You could see the check in the corn until about V5 then it blended in, there is some difference, but not enough to pay the fuel bill.
I have noticed....
If you have a GOOD stand of fescue the ground will mellow out good, if not it will NOT.
If you have good fescue don't cut corners on Rdup, and add 5 oz select in the spray for excellent results.
Be sure to soil sample, Grid sampling was well worth the money in my case, I didn't have the best pasture(patchy fescue), and it reflected it in the soil samples.
Residual herbicides will pay for themselves over and over again.
This ground should produce excellent, mine was off in PH more so than anything, I threw the money at it and have had a marginal year at best. I feel the money was well spent and expect the corn on this ground to out yield the other by 50 BPA or more. If you plant beans, be sure to inoculate the seed!!!
