| I was at a field day in Mount Joy (Lancaster Co), PA. Crops looked good there. I talked with several industry/ retail people. What I commonly heard was "crops are spotty - some areas look good. Go down the road a ways, and they are not so good. One guy from eastern PA, said corn crop yields will range from 50-180 bu/ac, from what he sees. I'm been complaining about how dry we are in this county. We've gotten a good amount of rain since Aug 1st. Right now, I am looking at corn coming off for silage - some of it looks "average", some is way below average. I think these rains are soon enough to help out the soybean crop. So, while some fields will still be below average, I think most beans fields should do okay. Some years we see almost as good soybeans yields on double-cropped beans (after barley) as we do on full-season beans. This might be one of those years, depending on how the rest of the year unfolds.
