Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | I've seen it done successfully. Trick is to get a good burn on the stubble. If the wind is blowing too much and the fire doesn't burn the chaff well, then that will cause a problem. Wheat chaff is not a good seedbed.
Guys usually harrow a time or two across the chaff rows after burning to spread it out, then airflow the seed on. Then roll it in with a till and pack.
I've always been to chicken to try it. Seen too much chaff cause a lot of problems before. That and I never could figure how to get the field smooth enough. Would have to landplane ahead of the wheat, not enough time for fall plant wheat here as it is. | |
