Subject: RE: when is hessian fly date for wheat in Central/South Central PA?

Gettysburg, PA

This just came up in a discussion I had with a producer.  The fly free date for us is October 1, but, he was wanting to plant small grain cover crop before that time, like right now acutally.  So he wondered if, by doing so, he runs the risk of problems with his small grain planted for cash crop????  I don't know enough about the whole hessian fly thing, but, does he run the risk of "cross contamination" from his cover crop wheat to his cash crop wheat??
