I tried that too, but it doesn't work that great to find the correct row.  It seems I always ended up doubling up on a few rows or having to switch rows in the middle of the field (I guess I don't plant straight enough). I went back to counting rows for the most even application.

 Now for spraying drilled crops or broadcasting fertilizer, it's the only way to fly.
