A consultant in Louisiana started bringing in foreign seasonal field checkers, mostly youngish, well educated women from places like eastern Europe. This was before the cotton acreage fell so much, and he needed more feet in the field. They learned quickly, worked hard and were thorough. But they weren't much on bras and were known to sun toplessly in their off hours. It was quite the talk through that part of the state, as I recall. I don't know if any of that brought a lot of extra rain, but the guy said he bought a lot of flowers for his wife that year. |
