Subject: Why not

Why not collect the insurance on a few acres of your droughted out corn and make a bag of silage? In really bad years, I've heard of guys mowing down standing corn and rolling it up a week later like hay, would want to do before much of an ear got developed though. Lots of alternatives, what about straw with a little supplement? Your grass looks pretty good yet for a drought. Cattle are going to be valuable property over the next few years, as they're expecting record fat prices next year and they just can't seem to get the herd rebuilding going. I wouldn't be too quick to just dump them. Wean the calves and background them and cows won't require hardly any more than filler.
