Subject: Last Shuttle Launch

High Springs, Florida

Left at 6 AM, and drove over to watch the last Shuttle launch. First one I have seen up close. We can see them on a clear day from the house here, but it's just a dot in the sky, if the sun is right you can see SRB separation.

We found a nice spot about 12 miles north of the launch pad at Mosquito Lagoon.

The launch was pretty specatacular, TV and video do not do it justice.

The noise is not anything like TV and movie "rocket noise", it sounded more like a popcorn air popper. The amount of flame coming out of those SRB's is unbelievable. It was all gone in seconds due to the low cloud cover. The noise persisted for what seemed like several minutes.

One more thing to cross off the "Bucket List"!!

I feel bad for the folks of Titusville, Florida. That place will become a ghost town, if rumors of 7000 folks losing their jobs come true.
