Subject: RE: vetch seed cost?

SE PA
As previously stated vetch price is historically all over the map. i've seen it as much as a buck a pound difference in my own area!
Tntfarm is right that 15lbs is plenty, but i'd add that's after you've planted it at least once in a given feild. I've dropped to 12lbs on vetch that does well in my area. Vetch just seems to grow better after planted once. I'd suggest at least 20lbs the first year and be sure to use vetch inoculant. it is the queen of legume N production cover crops (up to 150lbs) if you can get it planted on time and allow it to grow enough in the spring. Also, vetch has some hard seed that'll come up the following years. Not a problem IMO but you need to manage it, especially if you have grains. Easy to kill with 2-4D.
