Subject: Re: Nitrogen Loss

Winterset, Iowa
About every corn field in my area has those large yellow spots which are from too much rain and no oxygen to the roots. If you dig a plant in the yellow spots and then a healthy plant in the more well drained area you will see a dramatic difference in root developement. Some of your nitrogen may have been pushed deeper than the root zone. I know the lower leaves are showing nitrogen diffiency but maybe it's because the roots can't reach it. I think a warm, dry period like we are having right now in my area will help about as much as anything to allow the soil to crack and get some air to the root zone.
