Texas | A couple years ago we received approximately 9 inches in a two day period. My rain guage only went to 4 inches so I wasn't able to accurately measure all of the rain.
I have that problem solved now. I nailed 3 of the 4 inch guages to the post and now I'm good for a 12 inch rain. I figured the extra capacity wouldn't hurt anything and the rain guages were given to me by the equipment dealer anyway. No need to feel guilty for wasting extra rain guages and no need to miss the measurement of the next big rain that comes this way.
Sometimes I do cheat a little by adding some moisture in advance to be able to report when I get to town how much was "in the guage". I don't really see anything wrong with that, after all, I'm telling the truth. !!
Edit: For you really serious types, yes, I'm clowning around with this post. Fun, ain't it?
