Ironic? Certainly.
Karma? Definitely.
Darwin Award? Not bizarre or outlandish enough. A rational person would know that an otherwise simple crash can be deadly when you're not wearing a helmet.
Should he have been allowed to ride without one? Most definitely, as long as neither you nor I have to pay for his medical bills somehow.
