NIF, I know a retired wheat breeder who worked at WSU who always had test plots in the Southwick/Cavindish area because he said that area had the most severe disease pressure in the whole Palouse region.
Yes he had plots on our land for years testing specifically for winter diseases like dwarf bunt because we tend to have snowcover for longer periods of time than most other places. The UI wheat breeding program still has their plots on our place but I am not sure how much longer that will last since the wheat breeder Zemetra just left this spring and they haven't made a decision to replace him yet. It is always nice to have variety data for our field conditions. |
