Early sun flowers or millet will work. If millet is running late and your just doing it for doves ( not rolling for hay) you hit it with a shot of round up. I plant a small field every year and usually spray it . What seed is there will dry down fast and doves like seed on clean ground better. What part of NC are you located? I'm near Hickory.
