We're north of Lubbock....we're like you, usually grow corn and forage sorghum for silage, but wanted to try some irrigated cotton to see if it would take less water...I planted may 27, took that long because the pivot flipped over and had to get it fixed. It really looks good - especially compared to the corn and forage we have. Followed the planter with a pass of water and had full emergence within a week and a half in strip tilled ground. Consultant said its doing great - he was worried we planted too deep, the heat and wind isn't affecting it quite like the other crops, wish I'd have planted more - the dryland, on the other hand, is non-exisitant due to no rain at all. I bank down in Idalou (near lubbock) and banker says all crop there is awful.
