they will be hot. if you have to do so have them raised up a bit using 2 railway ties or similar beam. That will allow the hot air to exit drawing in cool air below. it's tough to do as the bedding keeps blocking off the bottom space letting in air. Sand would work better in this case. They are little ovens though so it will be tough to make it "comfortable" for them.
