Manitoba
depending on what type of wood it is from and whether it is dried or not can make a difference. Klebsiella (sp?) (causes a toxic mastitus) is pretty common in some shavings, had a run in with this bug a long time ago, lost about 10 cows in a week, most within 48 hours of getting sick. Sorry, can't remember which shavings are more prone to having it. That being the case using shavings is still very common if you can get them so I would not be too worried but you asked.
