Subject: Thinking about next years starter/ N program...salt load thougths

ECIL

Seems I can't get enough stress...already second guessing what I did this year.

Only using in furrow starter now on the planter. Used a very high quality (and expensive) starter.   Still had a little yellow corn with 125 lb of fall Nh3 and am now sidedressing the rest of my N.  Our area is plagued with ugly corn syndrome from V3 to V6 when it "gets ahold of the N".

Can't stand the yellow....although mine is minimal...can't take it anymore.

I can put on 5 gal of 10-34-00 in furrow and 7.5 gal of 28% away from the furrow for the same price as my expensive 3 gpa 100% ortho starter with 5lb of micros.  Every salesman warns of the potential perills of that much salt in the furrow, but I am thinking of taking my chances. Regular old 10-34-00 and 28% is a lot more bang for the buck....like twice the bang.

We are flat and black loamy soil, that is usually wet all spring.

This salt scare is nonsense, isn't it?  Assuming we are blessed with moisture.
