Subject: Re: Steiger brake retrofit?

Faunsdale, AL
Guy who works with us now, used to be a CASE mechanic. He said some of the later models which still had outboard planetaries had a large disc brake on the yoke of the front axle where the drive shaft comes into it. That's why I was asking. I had looked at putting one in place of the OEM brake assembly and there's just not room. Whatever goes there can't be much bigger in diameter than the brake assembly that's already there. I hadn't thought about one installed at either or both axles.

We'll have to look at the stock brakes and see if we can do anything for it before we re-engineer this thing. I've got a CAT wheel loader that's got 4 discs and calipers on it that I can get, but I know it wouldn't be a simple bolt-on modification.
