Subject: RE: Kubota engine questions

What model Kubota is it you have? Some of the older model Kubota diesel lawn tractors such as the G5200 or G6200 have what the owner's manual called a "smoke adjustment". It was a 3 position adjustment screw on the side of the injection pump that allowed you to adjust the exhaust smoke output by richening or leaning the fuel. More or less it adds a little power up to a point with respect to taking advantage of fuel air ratio depending upon pressure altitude and other environmental factors. To make power over and above this would require a turbo charger which would not be practical cost wise. Turning up the fuel on the pump would not be very effective as there would not be enough air to burn it.
