Central Missouri
I used to work a lot with double crop sorghum in South Central KS. For double crop sorghum, i recommend planting a higher than normal rate of sorghum. it will reduce the number of tillers and green berrys at harvest time or if there is an early frost. Then spray Roundup and Atrazine preemerge. I like injecting 50-80lbs of 28% when the sorghum is up and going. This sequence gives you the greatest chance of success with the limited amount of risk. (you can save the $$$ on N if it is dry, you save moisture with injected 28%). Depending on your local price of corn vs sorghum, i would suggest you double crop corn instead. it is much easier to dry in the bin and there is a greater yield potential. i know a farmer you planted some 97 day July 15th, 2008 and made 100 bu on 70 lbs of N.
