Slicker than a Yes album.
Are you sure they are hardwood? What kind? If you don't want to risk a drum sander (they can be wicked as Newguy states....no stopping!) then get a 4 disk orbital sander. Square in footprint, but has four pads underneath. Much easier to move around the room. Corners are a pain, but they are with a drum, too. Good masks, filter, vacuum, etc are a must.

I did my floors by hand, but had to due to the softness of pine. I have lots of experience doing this since our house has zero hardwood in it! Patience is a virtue in these cases.
