I would say that much dirt is common, even on the kind that mounts on the hex shaft. We had tru-count clutches that were mounted on the hex shaft for two years and we cleaned them after the planting season was over both times and they looked like that. Maybe it's not necessary but I felt like we would have been asking for it to expect them to perform well the next year if we didn't clean them up.
