West Texas | Not sure wheather it was the late 70's or early 80's but an old blue norther drifted down south and turned GA, SC, and NC into a frigid iceland. All of the textile mills were running on NG and the utilities cut them off so that the residences would have heat. Their secondary energy source was propane and none of the dealers were stocked for that type of demand. There were some strings pulled and the propane transports coming out of TX were allowed to fill their tanks and were not stopped an any of the ports of entry to any of the southern states. The drivers were given phone numbers for each state and were told to have any petrolman to call that number if they were stopped. This lasted for about 3 weeks. Our trucks were led from the SC border to Greenville, SC right up to the textile mills. |
