Subject: RE: JD 1770 Variable Rate Drive Not Starting????

SE IL

va1377 - 5/2/2011 17:36 We have a new to us 2001 JD 1770 with the variable rate drive and it won't engage the individual row units. The chains are turning on the ground driven tires but where it gets to the variable rate drive part to engage the individual row units it won't engage. It keeps saying there is an fault code 110, also says the version of greenstar is different( we bought a new brown box for the seedstar as the old one was shot so that may be part of the issue) and it says there is a canbus issue. Does anyone know what to check on it or had similar problems. Thanks in advance for any help!!

First of all the drive chains on the wheels shouldn't have anything to do with the variable rate drive. They would be for fertilizer I would assume. The seed drive should be hydraulic. You are going to have to get the planter communicating with the display-fault code 110 is really generic-could be alot of things. I would guess that the planter is still on 4/5 volts so make sure your display is dual CAN-either 2.5 or 4/5 volts. The controller on the planter may need updated to be able to use with the newer display. Check all of the wiring for cuts-especially at pinch points. Make sure all pins in plugs are secure. Dealer should be able to answer question about necessary controller updates. Good luck.
