As "Farms with Case" said I would look at the starter first that is where the fusable links used to be. I have a 95 Buick which should be quite similar, it has a large distribution fuse box on the cowl area under the hood behind the engine. I think you have to pull off a plastic cover or panel to access it, link may be in there. I would suppose like others have said that the diodes are fried in the alternator.
