Silver Lake, Kansas | Mrs. Farmer here. Earthquakes are one of my hobby topics. The area noted above has had an earthquake swarm for some months now. It has raised concerns on what faults are involved and if it is related to any new activation in the NMSZ as this would be at the very end of that area. While it has been a bit upsetting to the locals no main cause has been found. They have discontinued the use of several injection wells for methane drilling in the area and have seen a decrease in the number. There is a theory being studied in AR, OK, and TX as to if the use of "fracking" and the use of the injection wells is breaking rock layers and allowing fault lines to slip more easily. They have seen more small earthquakes in OK and TX with changing technology in the oil and gas fields. | |
