South Central MN | Ideally, 40' because we are on 16 30" rows. If not, 20' would be workable. We are thinking about trying the air idea because we've already got the equipment. Even if it clogs up, we aren't out anything because we haven't used it for years. We can just park it until the busy season is over and get it cleaned up and finally get rid of it.
I have dreamed of doing something like what you suggest; a system like that could even work for regular wet litter if robust enough. There is actually a rig from some ag research institute in Canada (PAMI?) that can direct inject feedlot manure using a system like what you suggest. They were concerned about burying the odor instead of boosting yield, so I couldn't find any good data from them. The cost of custom-building such a rig only to find out that we don't see any yield gain could really be a bummer.
