They make one-way vents - they will allow air IN to allow better draining, but prevent gas from escaping. We have one in a laundry room. There used to be a vent pipe that went through the ceiling and out to the roof, but was cut off when my folks remodeled years ago. The pipe now has a one-way vent on it.
